FROM
MARIE WINTELER
Olsberg,
Wednesday
evening [4-25
November
1896]
Beloved sweetheart!
Your little basket arrived
today
and in
vain
did
I strain
my eyes
looking
for
a
little note,
even
though
the
mere
sight
of
your
dear
handwriting
in the address
was
enough to make
me
happy.
I
really
thank
you,
Albert,
for
wanting
to
come
to
Aarau, and I don't have to tell
you
that
I will almost be
counting
the minutes until that time.
Tomorrow is
Thursday
and after that is
Friday
and then
finally finally
Saturday
and then
you
will
come
with
your
fiddle,
your
dear
child,
and
your
other child
(also dear?)
will
come
from the other
side.
Who
is
going
to
come
first and
be
able to pick
up
the other
one
at the
railway
station?
I'll be
home around 2:30
or
3
o'clock and don't
you
come so
late
either, sweetheart, I have to leave
on
Sunday before
4
o'clock,
it is
quite
far
to
walk
to
Olsberg
almost
11/2
hours
away
from the
railway
station. Last Sunday I
was
crossing
the woods
in
pouring
rain to take
your
little
basket to the post
office,
did it
arrive
soon?
My
love,
I do not
quite
understand
a passage
in
your
letter. You write that
you
do not
want to correspond with
me
any
longer,
but why
not,
sweetheart? You said
already in
your
Toggenburg
letter that
we
would want to write each other
again
when I'll be
in
Olsberg.
However, I
am
complaining,
am
I not, but I would rather not
do
so
and wait with
it
until [we]
are
together
again.
But then, I
am
not
going
to
forget
it, and if I'll get
a
really nice
answer,
such
a
one
that I would really like and then we'll play
together
and...oh, I
am
so
terribly
glad.
You scold
me
rudely
that I don't want to write to
you
how and
why
I've
come
here. But
you
dear wicked
one,
don't
you
