Last night I visited the
Grossmanns.[6]
It was very nice and interesting. We also
talked about a certain possibility. But meanwhile I’m not so enthusiastic about be-
ing a schoolmaster, year after
year.[7]
Have you already inquired about your
assets?[8]
It won’t make that much of a difference anyway! If I don’t come, it’ll
probably be
Debye.[9]
He is young and completely healthy—it’s actually the right
thing.
Heartfelt greetings, yours,
Albert.

Dear Else,
Today two letters from you. I call that loyalty! I think it abhorrent to stow
Margot away in a sanatorium. Aunt Fanny really could manage alone there; so this
mustn’t
happen.[1]
Margot has to have her rest. Just say I “ordered” it. I also just
received Mühsam’s
letter.[2]
Zangger already suggested a blood analysis as well,
which to my knowledge has not yet been done. The result wouldn’t be certain ei-
ther. For Mama it would be a new upset. So I’m not particularly in favor of
it.[3]
Monday or Tuesday I’ll be traveling to Lucerne until Thursday or
Friday.[4]
After
returning, I’ll stay here a few more days, will spend the night at the Habichts’ in
Schaffhausen & then travel to
Brandhuber.[5]
I hope to be able to finish off the
lectures today
already.[6]
Then I’ll be glad to have some peace. The last lectures
were still quite fine. From Planck I received a moving letter that I not be disloyal
to
Berlin.[7]
I wonÊt be, either. Come what may, we will hold
through.[8]
You
shouldn’t send any money. I have my reasons.
Greetings & a kiss, yours,
Albert.

[Zurich,] Monday. [28 July 1919]
Dear Else,
The lectures are now
finished.[1]
Today I also visited Mrs. Ansbacher and went
sailing with Edith, unfortunately with virtually no
wind.[2]
This evening the
Hurwitz children are also coming to see
me.[3]
Now I’m going to Lucerne until
Friday.[4]
Then I’ll stay a couple of more days (2 or 3) in Zurich, despite your two
