Dear Else,
Here I am outside Maja’s flat in a deck chair in the sun and admiring the view in
wonderful
weather.[2]
We are enjoying ourselves very much together; this is the
first real relaxing moment on this trip. On Saturday I am going with Albert to Arosa
for a few
days;[3]
then he and I are going staying with Maja for about 4 weeks (!).
When that’s over, it’s back again to Ensingen, where we shall then
meet.[4]
I have
arranged that I stay with the Zanggers for a total of only two days (one still to
come), because it is very uncomfortable for me there; his wife, in particular, is a
real pain in the neck for
me.[5]
But my Albert is happy
there.[6]
At Maja and Paul’s
it’s cozy beyond words; I immediately thought that we must try to make similar ar-
rangements for ourselves.

Dear Else,
I have to stay here until Tuesday, after all, because Zangger still wants to keep
me under close
observation.[1]
His diagnosis agrees quite precisely with
Rosenheim’s.[2]
He also attaches great importance to treatment in a warm climate.
Today he took a blood test and determined that there must be an internal inflamma-
tion in my body. After a brief Arosa stop, a rest cure of several weeks in Lucerne,
then perhaps another couple of weeks in Tarasp, which I would certainly change to
Mergentheim[3]
if you were to come over there. Please go to the bank and make
sure that the 1,400 francs finally
arrive.[4]
Also ask there whether De Haas has re-
ceived the 1,500
crowns.[5]
My
Albert[6]
gives me very much joy; I could not have
wished for a finer fellow. But that doesn’t mean I’m less fond of our little
minxes![7]
I am taking him along to Lucerne, so that he can spend his entire holiday
with Maja and
me.[8]
If a water cure does not become necessary, we shall meet in
Ensingen.[9]
Paul’s sister Rosa is remarrying next Tuesday after a long widowhood.
If I’m still there, I’ll be a witness at the
wedding.[10]
Today I was with Uncle
Jakob.[11]
He is as jovial as ever & lives in the Baur au Lac
hotel.[12]
He is advising
me to transfer all my money from Berlin, despite the bad exchange
rate.[13]
