wish we could arrange it similarly for ourselves as well. Then I too could join the
liberation-from-Rome movement with full
conviction![5]
I procured an adequate
amount of underwear to pull me through. Incidentally, I suspect that during the
winter we’ll all be in bed quite a lot (heating
substitute).[6]
Here it will be
likewise.[7]
I am considering traveling to Ensingen around September first and
staying there for about a
week.[8]
Where shall we meet then? I’ll still have plenty
of money left for the two of us, as it seems. Find out about a suitable spot; it suffic-
es, of course, if you send me word about it in Ensingen. Margot is also heartily wel-
come, in case you would like to take her along.
Kisses from your
Albert.
Greetings to Margot and Uncle, as well as to the two
excursionists.[9]

[Lucerne,] Saturday. [11 August 1917]
Dear Else,
I just wrote to turn down Zangger, who wants me in
Tarasp.[1]
I want to go to
Ensingen at the end of August, stay there one week, and then meet with you some-
where. Think about where this could be. In Weimar, perhaps? Or somewhere else
in Thuringia, in a quiet place, if
possible.[2]
I am in very good health, which is cer-
tainly no wonder, with such abundance of food. Yesterday I received a dear letter
from Ilse, which delighted me. She has probably steamed off at last with
Aunt[3]
and has entrusted Samson and
Delila[4]
to Margot’s care. I congratulate Margot on
the fecundity of her
muse;[5]
I am curious! You seem to have a vehement friendship
with Mrs.
Fechheimer.[6]
Be careful; strict masters do not rule for long; that’s what
one says when it’s raining down hard.
Greetings & kisses from your
Albert.
Vol. 8, 370d. To Heinrich Zangger
[Lucerne,] Saturday [11 August 1917]
Dear friend Zangger,
I can’t make myself go up to
Tarasp,[1]
especially since I am determined to cross
the border on August 31st in order to travel to Ensingen to see my
priest.[2]
I am
very comfortable at my sister and
brother-in-law’s[3]
and it is the first time that I
