[2]Two
representatives
of
the
Koppel
Foundation,
a major
contributor to
Einstein’s
new
institute
(see
Doc.
379),
sat
on
its board
of
trustees
(Kuratorium),
which also
consisted of
a
representative
of
the
government,
and
three
members
of
the
Kaiser
Wilhelm
Society
(see
minutes of
the Senate
of
the
Society,

July

in
GyBP,
I Abt.,
Rep.

Nr.

6-7). The
provisional
statutes called
for
the board
of
directors
or
“scientific
committee”
to
make
suggestions on
research
topics,
collabo-
rating personnel,
and financial
support
to the
board of
trustees. A third administrative organ-the
working
committee
(Arbeitsausschuss),
composed
of
grant
recipients-had
also
been
established.
It
was
to meet with
Einstein
at
least
once a year
to discuss the
progress
of
its members’ work and to
exchange
ideas. No
later than three
years
after
their
appointment,
members
were
to
give an
account-
ing
of how their
grants
had been used

[3]Franz
Stock
had
made
a
decisive donation to the
Kaiser Wilhelm
Society
at the
beginning
of
the
year (see
Doc.

note

His
reason
for not
accepting
election to
the board
of
trustees
of
Einstein’s
institute
was
that he
had
moved his
primary
residence
to
Stolzenburg,
present-day Stolec,
near
Szczecin,
Poland
(see

of
the
meeting
of
the

Andres
Krüss,
Ordner

[4]The
government
too had not
designated
its
appointee
to
the institute’s
board of
trustees. A month
earlier,
Harnack had
made
the relevant
request (see
