From Hans Albert Einstein [Zurich, 1 October 1923] Took him thirty-nine hours to travel from Kiel to Zurich and it cost him only 3.10 francs. He has been lucky both with the trip and with his exams. For his first exam, he had ten days to study for the second, eight days, and for the third, one-half of a week. Arthur Hirsch was very nice. For his physics class, he has more assignments. Franz Tank is a bad lecturer he mostly attends Peter Debye’s lectures. Hopes that AE is pleased with him and hopes to hear from AE soon. ALS. [144 038]. 178. From Hendrik A. From Deutscher Verein in Amsterdam Amsterdam, 8 October 1923 The Verein—among its members being the wife of the German general consul in Am- sterdam, Princess Hatzfeldt-Trachenberg, and W. de Vlugt, the mayor of Amsterdam— requests signed photos to be sold through a relief fund that aims to help the German in- tellectuals by inviting them to the Netherlands and assisting them in their intellectual work. From Universum Film-Gesellschaft Berlin, 11 October 1923 The company is planning to resume its presentations of cultural and educational films in the fields of biology, geography, and technology in the Urania lecture hall in Berlin during the winter semester of 1923/24. Has also received the postcards from Palestine, Madrid, and Germany, but has not had the time to reply. Remembers with fondness their meeting on board the Kitano Maru. The earthquake in Tokyo, Yoko- hama, and other provinces has cost more than 370,000 lives. Sends his daughter’s photo. ALS. [44 458]. 184.
