269. To Elsa Einstein
[Hildesheim,] Wednesday [11 June 1924]
Dear Else,
Today we drove from Göttingen to Goslar and from there to here in
Hildesheim.[1]
We saw splendid houses (Frankish ones from the Gothic period) and
especially picturesque squares and streets. Here we saw the splendid treasures and
reliefs of the
cathedral[2]
(as thoroughly as ever a
Goi[3]
). Tomorrow it’s onwards
to
Braunschweig.[4]
I feel as if I were a M[ember] [of the] I[dle] R[ich]
C[lass],[5]
as if I had always been one. I’m probably arriving Friday, but perhaps it’ll be Sat-
urday.
Warm regards to all of you, yours,
Albert.

272. To Mileva Einstein-MariF, Hans Albert and Eduard
Einstein
[Berlin,] 17 June 1924
My Dears,
I hope the elephant has been born by now, i.e., the house
purchased.[1]
Judging
from the photograph, I like it very much. It doesn’t seem to be old and in disrepair
