270 DOC. 22 SOLVAY DISCUSSION REMARKS
degrees
of
freedom of rotation that contribute
to
specific
heat in the normal
way
(i.e.,
according
to
statistical
mechanics)?
The
experimental answer
to
this
question
will
tell
us,
in
my opinion,
whether
at
absolute
zero
the
degree
of
geometric
order
brings
about
entropy
differences
or
not;
if the
experiments prove
the
latter,
then the exact
validity
of
Nernst's theorem
can
hardly
be doubted
any
longer.
