would have to

according
to
Lorentz
and

The
experiment
confirms
the
latter
force,
and
I
have
thereby definitively disproved my
own
principle. Oddly
enough,
E.
Cunningham
states
now
in the Phil.

that
your
principle
yields
the
same
force
as
mine, namely,
the
above
expression.[6]
Even
though I
am
confident that
I have
applied
your
theory
correctly
in
the
present case,
which
I
have
realized
experimentally,
Cunningham's statement
sounds
so
categorical
that
I would
appreciate your
opinion.
With
best

yours very truly,

September 1908
Most
esteemed Dr.
Einstein:
I have
been
staying
here
with
my family
for the
past
14
days;[1]
nevertheless,
it
is
very
difficult to
propose
to
you
a
definite
place
and
date
for
a
get-together,
because the
weather
is
much
too decisive
a
factor
in all
our plans.
The
only thing
I
can say
with
certainty is
that
I will be in
Brienz,
Hotel
du
Lac,
on
the
evening
of
Saturday,
the
12th,
for
we
will start the
journey
home
over
the
Brünig early
on
the
morning
of the
13th.
But would it
not
be
more
practical
if
we
were
to
meet in
Cologne
at
the
Naturforscherversammlung?[2]
I
am
certain
to be
there. There
we
would have
more
time
and be in
a more
appropriate
mood
for scientific discussions.
With best
wishes,
yours
very truly,
M.

Highly
esteemed
Dr.
Einstein:
My
most
sincere thanks
for
your
kind
letter. First
of
all,
I would
like
to
tell
you
more
about the
accuracy
of
my experiments,
if I
may.
I
think
I
can rightly
claim
that
I
attained
substantially greater precision
in all measurements
than
did
Kaufmann,
so
that
I
was
convinced
right
from the
outset
that
I must
obtain
definitive
results.[1]
