Highly
esteemed
Colleague:
Simultaneously
with this
postcard
I
am
sending
you a
manuscript
of
a
paper
I
just
finished[1]
Please
accept
it for
the
Annalen.[2]
The
first
part
of the
paper,
which deals
with
Boltzmann's
principle,
is
perhaps
too
lengthy.
But
please
do
not
take
this
amiss;
I
have
been
wanting
to
expound on my
opinion
about
this
topic,
and
this
was
an
opportunity
to do
so.[3]
Respectfully
yours,
A.
Einstein
227. To Jakob
Laub
Zurich, 11
October
1910
Dear
Mr. Laub:
Let
it
(the
Born
business) go
under
your name only.
After
all,
I
certainly
would not
have
dealt
with
the
thing.
I shall be
delighted
with
the
promised primer
and the
letter,
though
I
beg you
not to
lay
out
anything yourself,
but
to
let
me
know
about
your
expenses
instead, since
you are
not
a
millionaire,
after
all.
Pr[ague]
is
now
almost
certain.[1]
But
please keep quiet
about
it lest
I
will be
talked about
again,
and the
thing
comes
then
to naught.
The
paper
on
opalescence
has
been
dispatched
to
the
Annalen.[2]
I
take
great pleasure
in it. Now
I
intend
to
do
a
little
investigation
on
molecular
forces[3]
and
a
critical
study on
J.
G.[4]
Thomson's radiation
theory.
But
the
semester is
about
to
start
and
my
lectures
have not
yet
been
prepared,[5] so
I
don't
know
when I'll
find
the
time
to
do
it.
With
best
regards,
your
Einstein
My
wife and
my
little
boy
also
send their
greetings.
Give
my
regards
to Mr. Pockels
and,
especially,
to
P. Hertz.[6]
