To Johannes
Stark
Bern, 7
December
1907
Highly
esteemed Professor
Stark:
I
am
sending
you by
the
same
mail all
my publications except my
two
worthless
first
papers[1]
and
a
few
retorts.[2]
I
am
very glad
that
you
have
started
paying
attention
to
the
question
of
light
quanta.
Please
do send
me
everything you
publish
in this
area,[3]
which
is
of
such
extraordinary
interest
to
me.
It
seems
to
me
that
the
reflected
and
the
diffuse
ultraviolet
light
are
not
taken
into
account
sufficiently
in
Ladenburg's experiments,
so
that
the
numbers obtained
by
Mr.
Ladenburg
may very
well be too
small,
all the
more so
since
according
to
Lenard's
experiments
only a
small
fraction of the
electrons attain the
maximum
velocity.[4]
Respectfully
yours,
A.
Einstein

The
patent
claim
is
incorrectly, imprecisely,
and
unclearly
prepared.[5]
2.
We
can go
into the
specific
deficiencies of the
description
only
after
the
subject
matter
of
the
patent
has
been made clear
by
a
properly
prepared
claim.
For
the
present
let
us
note
that, in
general,
only
those
I.
Complaint
characteristics that
are
contained
in the
patent
claim
can
be
attributed
2 months[6]
to that which
is
the
subject
of
the
patent. Furthermore,
for
every
example
of how
the
design might
be
implemented,
it must be shown
that
it
corresponds
to
the
main
claim
of
the main
patent
and
to
the
patent
claim
of the
present patent.
