something
that
is
very
pretty
but that
won't
get
done
by
itself,
which is
very stupid.
You
wouldn't
believe how
bored
I
am
with
drawing pictures.
After
all,
I
am a
mechanical
engineer
and
not
a
drafter of central
power
stations
and such
diagrams.[3]
This would be
quite
nice
for
an
electrical
person
who
enjoys
this kind
of
thing,
but
not
for
me,
so
I
should call it
quits,
but that's
not
easy
either.
But
perhaps
I'll
feel
better
one
of these
days,
and
then
I'll
send
you
the
patents.
I
was
delighted to
read
your
last
letter.
Did Prof.
Wyss(?)
connect
the
Braunian
stuff
according
to Einstein,
with
magnetism?[4]
Something
like
that
would
seem
obvious if
one
thinks
about what
you
want to do with
the
Maschinchen
(if
all
goes well).
You'll
have
to
tell
me
about
it
then;
I'm
already
looking
forward to
it. Perhaps
one
will
then
find
out
a
little bit
about what's behind the
limit laws.
Has
Prof. Kowalski
already
told
you
something
about
the Maschinchen?[5]
Are
the contacts malfunc-
tioning already,
or
only
the insulators? Don't
you
even
want to
tell the form
of
the
alternating-current
meter to Prof. Kowalski
You don't
have to tell him
that
it
comes
from
me; I
would
simply
be
happy
if
it
were
put to
use,
since I believe
that
it would be
a
good
measuring
instrument,
especially
for
condenser
discharges. (Wireless
telegraphy)
But all this
is just
stupid
stuff. I
am so
done
in
that
I cannot do
anything
new,
and
to
chew
on
old stuff
is healthy
but
boring.
You
see,
less
remains
to be discovered in
electrical
engineering
than
in
any
other
field,
and
I
always
make
discoveries in
the
field
in which
I work,
so
getting
out
of here
is
my aim,
but whether
I
can
do it
is
another
thing.
I
often feel
as
if
I
am sitting
back and
looking on
with
some curiosity
and interest
to
see
what I'll
do
next.
This
is
what
makes
me
feel best.
I
haven't
yet
found
anybody
here
with whom
I
could be friends all
the
people
at
the
office
are
dullards
who
function
only
from
8
to
5.[6]
What
I
like
to
do
best
in
the
evening
is to
play
chess
or
read
calculus,
which does
my
heart
good
but
is
not
what
I
should
really
be
doing.
So,
I'll send
you
the
patent
drawing one
of these
days,
if
not
soon,
then later.
With
cordial
greetings, your
P.
H.
Give
my
greetings
to
your
wife and
Bujo,
too.
