According to a telegram sent by Professor Lorentz to the undersigned, the English
expedition, under Eddington, sent out to observe the solar eclipse on May 29, has
observed the deflection of light at the limb of the sun demanded by the general the-
ory of relativity. The preliminary value found lies between 0.9 and 1.8 seconds of
arc. The theory demands 1.7.
