I
fear
that
perhaps
you may
well
be
regarding your colleagues’
unfavorable
attitude toward
you
in
Zurich[2]
too
pessimistically. People
are
not
so
consistent
as
it
may
seem,
in
anything,
not
even
in
hatred
and unfriendliness.
A
bit
of
impartiality
might
help you
get over
the
rest
easily
as
well. I
always get by
best
with
my naivité,
which
is
20% deliberate, you
know.
This
is
simply
done
if
you
are
indifferent
enough
to
your
dear
fellow
men;
all the
same, you
can
never
be
as
indifferent
as
they
deserve.
Apart
from
the
general misery
we
know
mainly
from
newspapers,
I
am
leading
a happy, remarkably
peaceful
life,
more
withdrawn
than
in Zurich.
The
scarcity
of
persons
of
genuinely
like
mind
is perhaps
not
more
acute
than what
you experience
in Zurich. Such
as we
just
have to
resign
ourselves
to
loneliness in this
regard,
when circumstances do not
provide
an
unusual stroke
of
luck.
The
nicer
it
will
be when
we are
together
in Zurich.
With
pleasure
shall
I
seek to make Prof.
Levin's[3]
acquaintance.
It
is
very
grave
for Switzerland
that the Italians
are
starting
now as
well.[4]
Maintaining
the
food
supply
will
be difficult.
I
daresay
Ticino
will
also be in
danger.-[5]
You
probably
have received
the
notice
on
the
magnetic
research.[6]
As
a
precaution I
am
sending you
another
copy.
I
am
very
much
looking
forward
to
your
announced
publication.[7]
With warmhearted
greetings, yours,
Einstein.
Best
regards
to
Dr. Heller.
It
is to be
hoped
that
you
will
succeed in
preserving
his
position.[8]

Dear
Einstein,
Cordial
thanks
for
your
letter
of
May
22nd.
Our
views
on zero
point
energy
apparently
still
diverge
so
much
that it
seems
continued discussions
about
it
are
not
very
worthwhile.[1] Nonetheless,
I
understand
your
view
thoroughly
and
gladly
concede
that the
zero-point energy hypothesis
has led to
a
very
fine
result,
namely
to
your proof
of
magnetic
molecular currents.[2]
I
am
very grateful
to
you
for
your objections
to
my
“order”
paper,
albeit
without
being
able
to
recognize a single
one
of them
as
irrefutable.[3]
I
did
not
take into
consideration
the
absorption
of
radiation
because in
my opinion
the
order issue
is independent
of
intensity.
However,
I
am
going
to try to
take this
into consideration
as
well
shortly.
In that
form, my adding
