From
Michele
Besso
Krummenau,
29
November
1915
Dear
Albert,
I
duly
received
your
nice
postcard of
the
17th
relatively quickly
as
well
as
the
magnetism
paper.[1]
Many
thanks!
We
shall
not
be
granted
the
joy
of
being
together
in Krummenau.[2] It
seems,
your
boy
had
not
meant
so seriously
the
consent he had
given
me
and
is
glad
to be
alone with
you somewhere;
I
believe
one
of
his wishes
is
Zugerberg
mountain.[3]
I
naturally
would not insist
upon my
illusion
now anyway,
against
his
wishes;
but
besides,
there
have been
a
few
cases
of
diphtheria here
again,
so
that
we
ourselves
would have
suggested a change
in
plan.
We,
my
wife
and
I,
were
at Mileva’s in
Zurich
on
Friday
in order to
reiterate the invitation
officially
when
we
learned
of the
above-mentioned,
as
far
as
little
Albert’s wishes
are
concerned-we heard
about the
diphtheria
only upon
our
return here in Krummenau.
But
we
will
meet
anyway!
And
then
you’ll
tell
me
what could be
changed
in
the
earlier efforts
regarding
the
planetary
motions-whether
a
term
of second
or-
der
corresponding
to
the
centrifugal
force perhaps
plays a
role after
all,-
whether
assumptions
are
to
be made
on
the
density
distribution
in
the
Sun.[4]

Michele Besso
[Berlin,

November
1915][1]
Dear
Michele,
I’m not
coming
to
Switzerland until
Easter
after
all,
because
my
Albert
has
written
very
nastily
to
me, so
that
I
have lost all inclination.
I
have
to
come
to Berne at
Easter
anyway,
where
a
meeting
of
the
Anti-Oorlog
Raad
is taking
place,
in whose
Great
Council
they
have elected
me.[2]
You will
be
receiving my
papers
soon.[3]
The
problem
has
now
finally
been solved
(general covariance).
My
colleagues are acting
hideously
in this
affair.[4] You will
have
a
good laugh
when
I
tell
you
about
it.
Very
definitely
visit
Zangger
when
you come
to
Zurich. He
asked
me
explicitly
to report
this
to
you.
You
really
will
find him
a
matchless
friend;
such
as
he
are
few
and far between.
Affectionate
greetings,
yours,
Albert.
