OCTOBER

262. To
Wander and Geertruida de Haas
[Leyden, 3
October
1916]
My
Dears,
Very
touched
by your
letter, I
am going
to follow
your good
advice. Tomorrow
(Wednesday) evening
I
shall
come
directly
from
Mr.
Lorentz
to
you.[1]
Then
we
can
chatter
away pleasantly
all
evening,
and
I
can
still
go
to
the
laboratory
Thursday
morning.[2]
Thursday
midday
I
have
to
be in The
Hague,
though,
for
a meeting.[3]
With
cordial
greetings, yours,
Einstein.
263. To Hans Albert Einstein
[Berlin,]
Friday,
13
October
1916
My
dear
Albert,
Your
letter
pleased
me
exceedingly.
I
received
it this
morning. Yesterday
evening
I
returned
from
a
trip to Holland where I
was
staying
with Ehrenfest
in
Leyden.
He
asked
many questions
about
you,[1]
and
we
decided to
go
on a
trip together
with
you once
peace
has
returned.
Be
sure
to
write
to
your
aunt
again soon,
because she is
very
worried
about Mama
and is not allowed
to
visit
you
now.[2]
Because
of
my
trip I
was
not able to send
you
the
money yet.
I
am
sending
it
tomorrow to
Prof.
Zangger,
who
is
going
to
pick
it
up
from the
bank
for
you
all. I
am
very glad
that
Mama
is
gradually feeling
better;
Prof.
Zangger promises definitely
that
she
will
get healthy
again.[3]
But
she has to
have
a
complete
rest for
a
long
while
yet.
I
am
particularly
glad
that
you
both
are
already
so
understanding
and
independent
that
you can get
by quite
well
with
the
maid.[4]
But
I
am
sorry
that
you
are
not taking
piano
lessons
anymore.
How
did this happen?
Don’t
you
still
enjoy
it
a
bit?
It
is
at least
as
important
to
me
as
what
you
are
learning
at
school.
You
don’t need to
worry
about
marks.
Just
make
sure
that
you keep up
and
that
you
don’t have
to repeat
a
year.
But
it’s
not
necessary
to have
good
marks in
everything.
I
miss
you
and
Tete
very
much and
am
very eager
to
see
you
both
again.
When
is
Tete
starting
school? One is not
allowed
to
wait
too
long,
you
know.[5]
Don’t
get
anxious when
you
are
alone
with
Tete.
Although
I
am over
here,
you
do have
a
father
who
loves
you
more
than
anything else
and
who
is
constantly
