Institute
of
Physical Research, planned
jointly
with
the
Leopold
Koppel Foundation,
is
now
secured for
the
period
of
1
October
1917 onwards.[2] I
have
the
honor of most
humbly
enclosing an
excerpted
transcript of
the
University
Council minutes for
your obliging
information.[3] The
compensation
of
5,000 M,
provided
for Your Honor
as
director
of
the
Institute,[4]
will
be
paid
out
to
you
in advance
through
the
local
banking
house Mendelssohn
& Co.
in
quarterly
installments. Yet I
submit
to Your Honor
to
inform
me
whether
payment
should
be
made to

personal
address

to

news
of
the death
of
our
outstanding
friend has shaken
me
deeply.[1]
He
was
one
of the most excellent
persons
I
knew.
He
was
endowed besides with
great
talent and
a
cheerful nature.[2]
May
I
ask
you
for his
wife’s
address?
I
would like
to
write
her,
particularly
since
I
know her
personally.-[3]
I
was
away
in Switzerland for
the
entire
summer
until
two
days ago
in order
to
recover
from
an
intestinal
complaint.[4]
I
am
well
again.
One
feels
increasingly
alienated in
this hard
world.
But
we
appreciate
our
good-willed
brothers
of
like
mind,
even
if
they
are
located far
away
in
Cracow!
I
hope
fate
soon brings us
together
once
again.[5]
