10. From Paul Ehrenfest
[Leyden,
21
May
1914][1]
Dear
Einstein,[2]
1. Many
thanks
for
your
nice
letter![3]
2.
Since
I would
like terribly
much
to
discuss
my things
with
you (correspondence certainly
does not achieve
this
purpose),
I ask
you
whether
you
are
in Berlin in
the
period
from
Friday
the 29th
of
May
until
Sunday
the
31st
of
May.
I
would
like
very
much to
speak
with
you
during
these two
days.
[I
would
very
certainly
not
stay
with
you,
but
clearly
would
like
to be
as
nearby
to
you
as
possible!]-[4] Please
reply
to
me
(naturally
absolutely frankly!!!)
if
possible
by
return
post
on
the enclosed
postcard.

Glance
through
the
comments
on
the
enclosed
pages
a
bit;
but
you
do not
need
to
reply
to
them-I
prefer
to
get my response
orally.
Your remarks
about
magnet
electron I
cannot
agree
with.
I
shall defend
my
thesis
to you
in
person, specifically
with
the
aid of
the
magnet’s
adiabatic
infinitely
slow
approach! Namely,
this thesis:
If without
a
magnetic
field[5]
mr2w
=
0, ±h/2n,
±2h/2n,....
then
after
the
magnet's
adiabatic
approach
it
becomes[6]
mr2w
+e/cr2w
=
0,±h/2n,
±2h/2n.
perhaps a
little
coefficient
error.
This
is
obtained
when
you
consider
l cdo
extending over
the
electron's
orbit,
while
the
magnet's
entire
period
of
approach
is
lcdo
=
lldH/dtdf0
.
