Dear
Colleague,
I
have
just
finished
reading your
book with
great
interest,
from which
I
gather
with
delight
that
I
have
long
shared
your
convictions.-[1]
I
told
an
ailing gentleman
who
is
a
friend
of
mine
about
your
relativity
paper.[2]
He
was
very
interested
in
it.
You
would
surprise
him
very nicely
if
you
sent him
an
offprint.
His address
is
Dr.
Ludwig Kraft,[3] Prinzregenten St.,
Berlin
With
cordial
greetings, yours,
A.
Einstein.
I
am
enclosing my
new
paper
on
the
covariance of
the
grav[itational
field]
equa-
tions.[4]

Dear
Colleague,[1]
My colleague
Haber
gave
me a
letter
today
that
you
had written
to Mr. Planck
regarding
the
pending
affairs
of
the German
Phys.
Society.[2]
As
Mr.
Planck
is
very occupied
with his duties
as
president,[3]
I
am
writing
to
you
as
a
freshman
board
member who has been
participating
in
the
statute
consultations
for
a
while
now.[4] I
do
this
with all
the
more
pleasure,
since
you
are
surely
convinced
that
I cannot
have
become
a
“Berliner”
yet
in such
a
short
time.
I
did not have
the
impression
during
the consultations
that there
was
an
inclination
to grant fewer
rights
to
corresponding
members
than
to
those
residing
in
Berlin.[5]
For
example,
at
the last board
meeting
the
proposal
was
accepted
on
Haber’s
petition
to
nominate
you
as
first
president
at
the
first
general assembly
to be held
according
to
the
new
statutes in
April
of
the
coming year,
so
that the
first itinerant
meeting
would take
place
under
your
presidency.[6]
Haber,
who
after
desperate
resistance and
after
being
elected
despite being
in
contumaciam to
assume
the
presidency
of
the
society,[7]
is
very
consternated
by
your
letter.
We
do not
understand
in what
way
members do not
enjoy
the
same
rights
and
the
same
responsibilities.
You
would be of assistance in
this
matter
if
you
could
elaborate
a
bit
on
your
view,
so
that
we
could take it into consideration
at
the
meetings.
I
am
convinced
that
your
comments
will
be received
most
