the

You will
have
to
perform
wonders of tact and restraint
so

you

I

I’ll

Dear
Darling,
Already
the
second
letter that
I’m
writing
to
you
today![2]
My good
fortune
is
slowly beginning
to dawn
on me.
How
much
I
look forward
to
the
quiet evenings
we
shall be
able
to
spend
chatting alone,
and
to
all the
tranquil
shared
experiences
ahead
of
us.
Now
after
all
my
ruminations and work
I
shall find
a
dear little
wife
at home who receives
me
cheerfully
and
contentedly.
And
you
are no
longer
under
your
father’s command
but
are
kept
on
so
loose
a
rein
that
no
honest soul could
pity you
for
it.
You
recently
reminded
me
of
my
letter
which
begins
...
I
am
writing
to
you
today
for the last time
...
and which ends:
My
Zurich address
is
.....[3]
As for
you,
it’s
like
this:
Beginning:
I
am
going
on a
trip
for
some
time,
in order
to
be
away
from
you.
End: Come
visit
us
at
Bayrischzell.[4]
See
how
nicely
we
fit
together! Today
I
was
at
my
mother’s. She
is
delighted
and
only says: Oh,
if
our
poor
Papa
had
only
lived
to
see
it![5]
It
is
very
nice
of her to be
so
supportive
of
you.
I
would
not
have
expected
it from her
at
all
but
would
rather
have
thought
that
in
this
case as
well
she would have been
taken
over
by
the
illusion
of
an
insatiable ambition.
But
to her
credit
it must be
said,
she
is truly
pleased
about
everything
for
your
sake.
Your
parents[6] are
also
very happy;
but
they
are a
little
resentful
because
I
had
supposedly
been
a
bit
too
generous
toward Miza
so
that
our
income
will
be
a
bit
meager.
But Haber
has
promised
to
help
me
get
some
extra income
so
that
I
can earn a
little
more
without
it
being dispersed
too
much.
So
never
fear,
everything
will turn
out
well!
Haber
is
very
well disposed
toward
you;
he
seems
to be convinced
that
you
are
