concrete
expression.
Your observation
about the
entropy
constant
is
absolutely
correct.
My paper
to which
you
wanted to allude
is
probably
the
one
from
1914,[2]
not
the
one
from
1916;
there the
number
of
possible quantum-like elementary
states at absolute
zero
is
indicated
as
II(n!),
as
it
obviously is.[3]
Planck
will not
be talked out of his
metaphysical
probability
concept.[4]
When
considering
his
type of
inspirations,
an
irrational
residue
is
left
that
I
cannot assimilate
(I
then
always
have to
think
of
Fichte,
Hegel, etc.).
At
the
time, you
uncovered
a
false conclusion in
my paper
of
1914
(wrong
application
of
your
adiabatic
hypothesis).
I
informed
you once
how
a
correction would be
possible.[5]
You
never
let
me
know
whether
you approved
of
this
change
in
the
chain
of
reasoning.
Did
you
ever
receive
my
message
then?
Warm
regards,
yours,
Einstein.

Dear
Einstein,
Your
letter,
along
with
2 copies
of
the
contract,
reached
me
here
yesterday.
Enclosed I
am
returning to
you
one
copy
of the contract,
signed.[1]
As
long
as
I
was
in
Göttingen,
I
occupied myself
during
the
waiting
period
with
obtaining price
estimates
as
well
from
the
various
suitable
companies.
Even
after
that, Siemens still
seems
to
me
the best
supplier,
though. Besides,
I
know
some
gentlemen
there
and
I
definitely think,
as
you
likewise
will suspect,
that
this
must
be
taken
advantage
of.
Now I
am
at
my parents’
until
15 September, as you saw
above,
am
doing
as
little
as possible,
and
am
going
to
do
even
the
final
ordering
of
the
apparatus
only
from
Göttingen.
I
hope we can
then
set
up
the
apparatus
soon
and
make
some findings
that
please
you:
something
that
you
could
simultaneously perceive
as an
offering
of thanks,
which would suit
me
well.[2]
With best
regards
and cordial
thanks,
yours,
P.
Debye.
