Attached
to
this
is
the attack
on
Poincaré,
which does not
seem
justified
to
me
(except
for
the
very legitimate
criticism
on
page
116).[10]
It
would be too
lengthy
to
go
into
this
in
more
detail, especially
since
what
I
would be
telling you
would not be
new
to
you,
essentially.
I
am
sending you
a
popular
little
book
on
the
theory
of
relativity,
in which
I
addressed
the latter
issue.[11]
I
know
that
I
am
certainly
not
going
to win
your
applause
with
it
because
you
will
condemn
my point
of
view,
as
it
is
presented
there,
as “empiricism.”
It
seems
to
me
to
apply more
to
the
presentation, though,
than
to
the
substance.
But it
would be nice of
you
if
you
read
the
relevant
parts,
so
that
we
could take
it
up
when
we
discuss
the
subject
sometime in
person.
With
best
regards,
I
am
yours truly,
A.
Einstein.
625. To
Paul Ehrenfest
[Berlin,]
27 September
[1918]
Dear
Ehrenfest,
You
are
such
a
kind
person
that
I
have
no
alternative
but
go
visit
you, despite
the horrendous
traveling
conditions[1]
and
despite
my
mother
lying so
seriously
ill
(cancer)
in Lucerne
that
I
do not know when
I’ll
have to
go
there
again.
I
shall
be
glad
to
give a
lecture. Send
me an
official
invitation
very
soon
and take
steps
from
there
right
away
so
that
my
entry
is
permitted immediately.
The
official way
through
the
local
embassy
takes
a
minimum
of
3
weeks, as
they
themselves have
informed
me.
I
am
indescribably glad
at
the
prospect
of
seeing you again
and
of
taking
in
the
refreshing
Leyden
atmosphere, now
that
the dreadful
war no longer weighs
upon everything.[2]
With
cordial
regards
to
all of
you,
yours,
Einstein.
