A
year
earlier,
Klein had
already
alerted Einstein
to
the
possibility
of
"elliptic"
rather
than
"spher-
ical"
geometry
(see
Doc.
319).
The reference
to
Schrödinger

passage
is
to Schrödinger 1918b;
the reference

("Runge’s

is

See Doc.
566, notes 12
and
13,
for further
analysis
of
this
pas-
sage.
[24]The problem
is
that
the interior Schwarzschild solution contains the De Sitter solution
as a spe-
cial
case, not
the solution
describing
Einstein’s
cosmological
model. Klein conflated these
two
solu-
tions
(see
Doc.
319, note
1,
and Doc.
552, note 3),
and continued
to
do
so even
after
reading
De
Sitter
1917b,
in which Einstein’s and De Sitter’s models
are clearly distinguished as cases
A and
B
(see
also
Doc.
355).
Writing
to
De Sitter
two
days
later,
Klein
acknowledged
that he had
originally
conflated
the
two
cases
and that De
Sitter's
paper
had made him realize that
they
are
different. He then
goes on
to
say,
however,
that the results
of
his calculations for
case
B
do
not
match the results
of
Einstein’s
calculations,
without
giving
any
indication that
he
realized that this is
because
Einstein’s calculations
apply to
case
A
(see
Felix Klein
to
Willem de Sitter, 22 March 1918,
NeLO,
box
20).
The
problem
was
resolved about three months
later
(see Doc.
566
and
notes 12
and
13 thereto).

the

Klein

previous year,
Klein
had also circulated
some
of
his lecture

Doc.

[26]In
the
draft,
Klein wrote: "Was ich

einigen
Widerspruch
