80. MILEVA MARIC

My
dearest Helenchen!

I'll
come
again
to
Zurich for the winter and
so
will Albert;
we
look forward to
seeing
each other with boundless
happiness.
He
writes
very
often and is
very
cheerful
as
usual. He always sends
you
his
regards and asks how
you
and
your
sisters
are
doing.
Do
you
still
remember his
prophecy?
Now
you
will
soon
have the opportunity to
refute his
blasphemous
words
through
facts. Such
a
boisterous
fellow, and
yet
I
love
him
so
much! But
you,
dearest,
you
love both of
us
because of that, I know it.

TO
HELENE KAUFLER
Zurich
Thursday [11
October
1900]
Dear Miss
Kaufler!
So, it happened
at
last!
I
congratulate
you
cordially
on
your
good fortune and
your
decision,
and wish
you
all the
bliss
a
girl
dreams about. And
may my
card
readings
not
come
true, needless to
say;
rather,
you
shall become
a
nimble,
capable
little
housewife,
for
his
happiness
and
as an
example
to all the world. One of these
days,
if
God does not will
it differently,
I'll
peep
into
your
little nest and
with the conscientiousness of
an
old
aunt
I'll check
out
everything to
my
satisfaction and I'll let
my
critical
eyes
dart
in
all directions.
My
Dockerl arrived here
yesterday
together
with her
sister,
so
that I hang out at her
place
all day long,
as
always.
Neither of
us
two has
gotten
a
job
and
we
support
ourselves by
private
lessons
--
when
we can
pick
up
some,
which is still
very
questionable.
Is this not
a
journeyman's
or
even a
gypsy's
life? But I believe
that we'll remain cheerful in it
as ever.
I hope that
you
will both
come
again
to
Zurich,
so
that the old
friendship
does not become
rusty. Also,
I would
very
much like to
see
what sort of
figure
you
cut
as
"the better half." How
you
will be
envied by
your
spinster
college
friends!
Once
again,
cordial
greetings
and
congratulations
from
your
Albert Einstein
