Separation had to
come
about in such
an
unnatural
way,
on
account
of
slanders and
intrigues
and all kind of
things.
Oh,
let
me
tell
you,
even
if I
were
to write all
day
long,
I wouldn't be able to
describe
to
you
how much I suffered during that time, and Albert
no
less. But
now
everything
is back
on
track,
thank God. Albert's parents
were a
little bit behind
it,
you
can
imagine how bad it
felt to
be attacked
from that side. But I don't want to waste
any
more
words
on
that,
on
the
ugly
abominable world.
I
am
happy
that he loves
me so
much, and
what else do I need. He is
going
home for
Christmas,
which
really
frightens
me,
but it just cannot be otherwise.
A
few
days
ago
I
received
a
photograph
of
you
and
your
husband
from
your
little sister Alma. Thank
you very
much
for it, I
was
yearning
for it for
a
long
time.
We
find that both of
you
are
excellently depicted,
I
was
especially happy
that
your
dear
eyes
look
so
happily
and contentedly into the world.
Albert has
written
a
paper
in
physics
that
will probably
be
published
very
soon
in the
physics
Annalen. You
can
imagine
how
proud
I
am
of
my
darling. This is not
just
an
everyday
paper,
but
a
very
significant
one,
it deals with the
theory
of
liquids.
We sent
also
a
private
copy
to
Boltzmann,
and would like to know
what
he
thinks about
it,
let's hope he is going to write
to
us.
[...]
Since Albert would like
to
add
a
few
words,
I
must
now
stop.
I
embrace
you
Miza
and
regards
to
your
husband.

TO
HELENE SAVIC
[Zurich,
20 December
1900]
1
Dear Mrs.
Savic
(+1
91/2
,
I
hope)!
I'll not
vent
on
you my
impotent resentment
over
not
getting
to
read Dockerl's
letter
to
you;
I'll rather
rejoice
a
little with
you
in
your
new
happiness.
One
can
really
rejoice
in
seeing
you
two
in the
photograph,
and
so we
did.
Your
little sister has sent
us
the
photograph, and
a
nice letter
to go
with it...but
when will
we see
the
originals?
Very
soon
in Zurich, I
hope.
But what do
you say
to
our
separation?
The lass cried
because the
lad
must
split
but
we
thought
we
won't grumble about it!
Thus
we are
staying together, the
same as
before, at
any
rate
until Easter and
also thereafter.....
To
you
I wish all
the
happiness,
to
your
operated sister
a
good
recovery,
and
to
ourselves another
friendly letter from
you
soon.
Cordial
greetings
to you
and
your
old folks
from
your
Albert
