married
couple.[6]
The flow of correspondence has had a slight constipation, or is
it the post office? But that’s all right. I probably won’t be able to make it to Lucerne
this week; I’ll be going next week instead. Mama will be very sad when I leave: she
actually feels very abandoned there, which is partly her own
fault.[7]
I’ve noticed
that my presence offers her much comfort. Uncle Jakob is nothing but a
fatso.[8]
Heartfelt greetings from your
Albert.

[Zurich,] Wednesday [23 July 1919]
Dear Else,
At last I spoke with Zangger, who confirmed to me that it’s not certain it’s can-
cer—in any case, protracted and
painful.[1]
This week I’m not going to
Lucerne.[2]
Mrs. Ansbacher was very nice: Mama seems to have broken all ties with
her.[3]
To-
day Weiss (Strasbourg), who knew about a lot of interesting things, was here to see
me; he unfortunately lost his
wife.[4]
He’s coming again tomorrow.
Weyl[5]
will
come along on a short walk. Albert is on a tour, unfortunately in the
rain.[6]
The
Sterns were hospitable again. Dora Stern (from Berlin) is also
here.[7]
This evening
I’ll be visiting the
Meyers.[8]
I am being very well taken care of by the maid, who
cooks well—I’d wish the same for
you.[9]
I received a friendly report from
Brandhuber; I’ll go there but will certainly stay less than a
week.[10]
On the 15th I
hope to be with you again.
Fond greetings from your
Albert
also to the children and to Mrs.
Hellberg.[11]
Vol. 9, 74d. To Elsa Einstein
[Zurich,] Friday. [25 July 1919]
Dear Else,
Now it will soon be over. Today, tomorrow, and Monday still
lecturing.[1]
Then
I’ll go to Lucerne for a few more days, then to Zurich for a few, so I can travel to
Brandhuber’s around the 8th of August and will be with you at the latest on the
15th.[2]
Zangger also isn’t convinced yet that Mama has cancer. At least there isn’t
any
proof.[3]
Albert has returned
again.[4]
He is a dear and intelligent fellow. Give
my warm greetings to the Moszkowskis and look after
them.[5]
