So after letting the 13,750 francs find their way back to Dr. Curti, the following
balance results:
Receipts: Fr 13,750.–
To consortium member Einstein:
5,500 [Fr 500 to me per written agreement, whereof I was to pay
out to Elsa 750.– marks, which has
happened.][3]
to
Koch[4]
937.50
to
Winteler[5]
937.50
7,375.–
remainder (to be delivered to
K[oppel][6]
) 6,375.–
Now I should soon have the definite instruction of where and how K. would like
to receive the remainder, whether through you directly, but am still without any re-
ply. Would you therefore, since I have winter holidays at the end of the month, like
to report to me beforehand, whenever possible, pertaining to the amounts so that I
can fulfill my duties as representative of the consortium?
– What Guste Hochberger wrote you about us was surely well meant but does
not describe matters
properly.[7]
I don’t understand why she writes about things that
Maja can best tell you directly soon and, as I believe, also objectively. We have
been living very harmoniously, as before; it was, in my opinion, always just our
dear friends who, with the best of intentions, put sour mushrooms in the wine, not
least but rather first and foremost, Dr. Häfliger, who was, of course, there to see
you.[8]
Now Guste Hochberger is starting with it as well. The only truly reasonable
woman was
Azzolini.[9]
Cordial regards, yours,

Thursday [after 15 December
1919][1]
Dear Mr. Freundlich,
Upon reading your article a few pressing questions occurred to me. We have
probably already touched upon all of them, but I would like to have the answers in
one
place:[2]
1) How did the radii of the B-stars result from
occultations?[3]
2) Since the parallax of the Orion nebulus seems to be properly known, one
could determine from the
data[4]
