DOCUMENTS 342, 343 JANUARY 1912 393 On the evening of 16 January, a student torchlight procession organized to express appre- ciation for federal approval of monies for the expansion of the ETH (see Doc. 317, note 1) wended its way through the streets of Zurich (see Neue Zürcher Zeitung 133, no. 72 [17 Janu- ary 1912], p. [2]). It may have been on this occasion that a banner in support of Einstein's appointment was displayed, underscoring the popularity of the ETH decision to recall him to Zurich (see Heinrich Zangger's notes, ca. 1955, Estate of Heinrich Zangger, Zurich). 342.
