I

to
you

to
Cunningham[14]

according
to
your

everything

Interest
in this whole
dispute
has died
out,
anyway,
since I
proved
that
only your
theory
of
relativity
is feasible.[16]
And
as
I
said,
the
proof
is
absolutely
irrefutable.
I
was
very
surprised
myself
when
I
found the Lorentz-Einstein
theory
confirmed.
For
my
confidence
in Kaufmann's
measurements
was
still
unshaken
when I
started
with
my
experiments.
With
best
wishes,
yours sincerely,

Esteemed
Colleague:
After further
rumination about the
cause
of the
discrepancy
between cathode
ray
values,
I have
come
to
the
conclusion
that the
conjectured
influence
of
the
Roentgen-ray
energy
will
not
suffice
after
all.[1]
When
all
is
said and
done,
the
generation
of cathode
rays
is
a
process
that
has
not
been
sufficiently
elucidated,
and
important
factors
could
therefore
easily
have
been overlooked
in the calculation
of
the
velocity.
If,
for
example,
the
generation
and
the
acceleration of electrons
at
the cathode
were a
unitary
process,
then
the work done
in
generating
the
electrons
would also have to be
taken
into
consideration
in
the
energy equation.

best
wishes,

I

I
