DOCS. 235-237 NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 910
235. To Leo
Graetz
Zurich,
22 November 1910
Highly
esteemed
Colleague:[1]
Upon
careful consideration
I
must, unfortunately,
decline
your
tempting offer.[2]
I
have
taken
upon
myself so
much
and
started
on so
many things
without
completing them,
that
I must
avoid
any
new
responsibility.
But
I
am
terribly
sorry
that
I cannot
comply
with
your
kind
request.
Yours
very
respectfully,
A.
Einstein
236. To Alfred Stern
[Zurich] Tuesday
[6
December
1910][1]
Dear
Prof. Stern:
Thank
you
so
much for
the
ticket. It
is
unbelievable
what
Flesch
got
out of his
violin,
he
is
a
real
magician.[2]
He
has
a fascinating rhythm
and
a
tone
that
is
wonderful
even
in
the
most difficult
passages.
One
can now
read
in the
professional journals
about
my
appointment at
Prague.[3]
But
I
have
not
yet
received
any
communication.[4]
If
it
really
comes,
then
I
wish
that
Adler[5]
would become
my successor.
With
best
regards
to
both of
you,
also from
my
wife,
yours sincerely,
A.
Einstein

Zurich,

December
1910
Highly
esteemed
Colleague:[1]
I will
gladly
deliver the
lecture
on
16
January.[2]
On the other
hand,
I
cannot,
unfortunately,
take
it
upon
myself
to
write it
down.[3]
First of
all,
it would be difficult for
me
to find
the
time
needed, and
second, I
have
nothing
new
to
present,
so
that
publication
would
not
be
justified.
It
is
not
at
all
settled that
I
will leave
Zurich.
True,
it
was publicized
in several
places
that
I
have
been
called
to
Prague,[4]
and such
an
appointment
has
indeed been
promised to
me.
However,
thus far
I
have
not
received
any appointment.[5]
Respectfully
yours,
A.
Einstein
