DOCS. 259-261 MARCH-APRIL
1911

His
opinion
about
the
former
sounded
very
unfavorable. Kuntz
is
not
only a man
devoid
of
any
scientific
judgment,
but
he
is
also
not
conscientious,
in fact he
is not
even
honest
enough.[3]
He
did work
under
Thomson,
but
as a
mere
research assistant
and not
as a
private assistant.[4]
In
support
of
his
opinion,
Mr.
Weiss cited
several
facts,
but
under the circumstances their reiteration
may
well be
pointless.
Mr.
Dufour
is
a very
capable
man.
He has carried
out
one
of
the
best
investigations
in the
area
of
magneto-optics.[5] However,
he
is not Swiss
but
French,
and
perhaps
does
not
even
understand German.
Finally,
Mr. Weiss
called
my
attention
to
a young
Swiss
physicist,
Dr. Perier,
whom
he
regards
very
highly
both for
his
personal qualities
and for his
qualities
as a physicist.
He
was
his assistant, he
habilitated
at the
Polytechnikum
(but
did not
lecture
there),
and
is
now a
private
assistant
to
Kamerlingh-Onnes
in
Leiden.[6]
By
the
way,
let
me
mention
that
I too
know
the
gentleman
and
regard
him
highly.
I
have
already
discussed this
suggestion
with Prof.
Kleiner;[7]
he told
me
to
ask
Kamerlingh-Onnes
for
his
opinion
about
Mr. Perier, which I have
already
done,
so we
should
probably
get
his
answer
quite
soon.
Respectfully
yours,
A.

Lucien Chavan
[Zurich,

Dear
Chavan,
I
was
delighted
with
your
news.[1]
If
only
it's
also true. Write
to
me
to
Prague
about
everything.[2]
Our address
is
Hotel
Viktoria,
Jungmannstr.[3]
Prague.
Cordially, your
Einstein
I'll
surely give F.[4]
a piece
of
my
mind!

Everything
went well.
Today
we

I wish to
