longer constant
in
the
second
approximation.[4]
Because
as
far
as
I
know,
a
displacement
that
increases
regularly
with the
wavelength,
and
that
should amount to 0.01
for
X
=
5000,[5]
has not
been
observed;
the
displacements
for
the different
lines
are
quite
dissimilar.[6]
It
would also be
interesting
to know
whether the increase
in
the
displace-
ments[7]
as
one
goes
from
the
center
of the solar
disk to
the
limb
can
also be
derived
from
the values of the
gravitational potential.

My
dear
Albert,
I
was only
partly happy
with
your
postcard,
because I would have liked
so
much to
hear
you
talk for
once![1]
If
you
are going
to Cracow
before
Karlsruhe,[2]
then
you
will
surely
start
your
journey
pretty
soon.
I
can't
tell
you
how much I
look
forward
to
our seeing
each other
again.
While in Karlsruhe, be
sure
also
to
visit
August
Marx,[3]
&
Aunt Mathilde
invites
you
through
me
to
go
to
them
from
Brussels.[4]
Our
last
guest
left
today,
and
new
guests
have
been booked
already
for
the end
of the
week;
the hotel
flourishes![5]
You
see,
it's
not
only you
who
is
very busy,
but
me
too.
Give
my greetings
to Miza[6] &
the children.

Mama
286. To
Heinrich
Zangger
Prague,
20
September 1911
Dear
Mr.
Zangger:
When
you
were
here
I told
you
about the
inquiry
regarding
a
call
to Utrecht,
which
I had
immediately declined, however,
on
the
grounds
that
I
could
not bring
myself
to
change my
place
of residence
so
soon
again.[1]
This
inquiry
came
from
the
physicist
Julius.[2]
Well, today
I received
a
second
inquiry
from the
faculty,[3]
in which
they
press
me very
hard,
so
that
I
am now giving really
serious
thought
to the call to
Utrecht.
In
keeping
with
my
promise to
you,
I
am writing
to
you
immediately
about
this
matter.
Things
will be
moving
fast,
because the Utrecht
faculty
is
in
a
hurry
to
have
the
post
filled
again; thus,
I
will
soon
have
to
say yes
or no.
The
pay
is
6000
Dutch
gulden.
I
must
admit that
the
thing
looks
enticing
to
me. Kamerlingh-Onnes[4]
and
H. A. Lorentz
next door;
Julius for
a
colleague.
I
am
also in
touch
with the
colleague
in
Groningen
in
connection
with
a
project
on viscosity.[5]
Do
you
think that
something
could be
decided
so
quickly
in
Zurich?[6]
It
is
dreadful
always
to
have
to
decide
between
two
