Dear
little
Mamma
No.
2[1]
Outside the
sun
shines
seductively
&
I
am
free
&
have
nothing
to
do,
&
yet
nothing
draws
me
from
my
room
to
the outdoors.
I feel
as
though
the dear
sun
is
smiling
down
on
everyone,
but
not
on
me-and
still I know
that that's
not
true-I seek the solitude
only
to
complain
then
silently
about
it.
And
I
could not
say
why
I
feel
so strange;
after
all I
am
the
same
odd
fellow
as
before.
Don't take
it amiss
that
I
have chosen
a
time like
this,
[----]
&
he
is
a very
dear
man
and sends his
[----].
Greetings to
all
of
you
from
your
Albert
A certain
Miss
Schweitzer,
a very
fine
girl
who
went to
school with
Anna
or
Rosa,
also
sends
her
greetings.[2]

[Einsiedeln, August 1899]
A thousand
greetings
to
you
&
your
dear
ones! Soon
you
will
get
a
letter
from
Papa[2]-I
would
prefer
to
come
myself-if
only
I
could make it
plausible
to
my
mother.[3]
Yours,
Albert

Esteemed Professor
Paalzow:[1]
I
am
taking
the
liberty
of
inquiring
whether
you
have
a
vacant
position
for
an
Assistent,
and of
applying
for
it in
case you
do.
I
studied
for
4
years
in
the
department
of
mathematics
and
physics
of
the
Polytechnic
in Zurich,
specializing
in
physics.
I
obtained
my
diploma
there
last
summer.
Of
course,
I will
gladly
furnish
my
grade
transcripts
for
your inspection.
I
also have
the honor
to
submit
to
you by
the
same
mail
a
reprint
of
my
article that
appeared recently
in the Annalen der
Physik.[2]
Very
respectfully,
Albert
Einstein[3]
