DOCS. 381-383
APRIL
1912
Greinacher[17] cannot
be
recommended
as a
theoretical
physicist,
either
on
the
strength
of
his
relevant
knowledge
or on
the
strength
of
his
accomplishments.
There
can
be
no
doubt about
that.
Therefore, if
we are
talking
of the selection
of
a
theoreti-
cian-as the
names
you
mention
would
indicate-then
G. is
out
of the
question.
I
am very
sorry
that
Debije
will not
remain
in Zurich.
Please
give
him
my
regards.
With cordial
greetings, your
A.
Einstein
who
is terribly
happy
that
he will
soon
be
putting
up
his tent in
Zurich
again.
382. To Alfred
Kleiner
Prague,

April
1912
Highly
esteemed
Prof. Kleiner:
I
replied
to
you
this
morning
immediately
after the
receipt
of
your
letter
and
a
short
deliberation.[1]
It
later occurred
to
me
that
it
was
irresponsible
of
me
not
to put
in
a
good
word
for
Abraham,
who
outstrips
in
importance
all
those
you
have mentioned.[2]
The
papers
Abraham
published
these
last few
years
are
also
of
great importance. Only
his
recently published theory
of
gravitation
do I
consider
a
grave
mistake.[3]
It
is incomprehensible
that
this
really
important
man
is
being
avoided like
the
plague
because of
a
few
cocky
sarcasms
he
indulged
in
a
few
years
ago.[4][5]
Could
you
not
consider
bringing
him to
Zurich
all the same?
Of
course,
I
do not know
whether
he
would
accept.
Please
forgive
me
for
my
taking
the
liberty
of
drawing your
attention
to Abraham,
about
whom
you
probably kept quiet
on
purpose.
But
I
do
consider
it
my duty
to
point
him out
to
you
on
this
occasion,
and
I
do not
doubt that
Debije[6]
will be
of the
same
opinion.
With
best
regards,
yours very truly,
A.
Einstein

To Alfred
Kleiner
[Prague] Wednesday [10 April 1912]
Dear
Prof.
Kleiner,
My
remark about the
"confession"[1]
was
meant
only as
a
joke.
I
am
well
aware
of
your
benevolent
attitude
and know well
that
you only
wanted
to tease
me.
I
am
very
glad
that
you
want to
propose
Laue,[2]
both for the sake of the
University
and because
it will be
a
great pleasure
for
me
to
interact
personally
with
Laue,
whom I
regard very
