Dr.
Frank,
who
is,
to
be
sure,
one
of
the
most able
of the
young
Austrians,
is
to
become
my
successor.[11]
415. To Conrad Habicht
[Zurich,
14
August 1912]
Dear
Konrad,
I
believe I
took
your
(or
Paul's?)[1]
umbrella
with
me
&
left mine
behind
in its
place.
We
can
re-establish the
status
quo
when
you
come
to visit
us
with
your
bride. We
are
looking
forward to it
eagerly
Address: Corner of Schneckenmann
&
Hofstrasse between
the Fluntern church
&
the
lower
Dolder.
With
warmest
greetings, yours,
A.
Einstein

Ludwig
Hopf
Zurich,

August
[1912][1]
Dear
Mr.
Hopf,
I
was
with
you
in
spirit, going
through
all the
appropriate
emotions,
during
your
passage
into
the marital
state,[2]
&
am
delighted
that
you
and
your-in-all
probability
(ca.
97.5%)
better half
will
soon come
to
visit
me.
The
address:
Hofstr.
116 (near
the
little
Fluntern
church).
The work
on
gravitation is
going splendidly.
Unless
I
am
completely
wrong,
I have
now
found the
most
general
equations.[3] Recently,
in two
massive
attacks-as
you
perhaps
saw-Abraham
slaughtered me,
along
with
the
theory
of
relativity,
and
wrote down
(Phys.
Zeitschr.)[4]
the
only
correct
theory
of
gravitation
(with
the
"nostrification" of
my
results)-a
stately
steed,
but
one
that's
standing
on
only
one
leg!
He
also
established that
a
recognition
of
the
mass
of
energy
stems
from-Robert
Mayer.[5]
Looking
forward
to
seeing you, your

Highly
esteemed
Colleague,
I
am
very grateful
to
you
and to
the other
gentlemen
of
the
Commission for the
flattering
invitation that
you
sent to
me.
Unfortunately,
I
am
in
no
position
to
accept
it.
