Esteemed
Doctor Einstein:
Thank
you very
much for
your
last
letter
and for the
paper
you
sent
me.[1]-
I must
beg
your
forgiveness
for
the
fact
that
I
answer
only today; a lengthy
illness
(a
bad
flu) prevented
me
from
doing
so.-
I
am
not
yet
finished with
the
study
of
your
last
paper,
but
I
already
rejoice
in
the
thought
that
I will
soon
be able
to
talk
with
you
about
some
of
its
points.
For
I
intend
to
come
to
Bern
at
the
beginning
of
April;
please
be
so
kind
as
to write
me
immediately
whether
this
date
suits
you.-
I
must
tell
you quite
frankly
that
I
was surprised
to
read that
you
must sit in
an
office for
8
hours
a
day.
History is
full
of bad jokes.-
Prof.
Wien[2]
sends
you
his
best
regards.
As for
the
signal velocity,
he does not
consider
the
problem
completely
solved.[3]
I also
had the
opportunity
to
talk here with
Prof.
Sommerfeld about
this
matter.[4] I hope
that
we
will
talk about
it too.-
Have
you
read
Hasenöhrl's
paper,
"Zur
Thermodynamik bewegter
Systeme" ["On
the
Thermodynamics
of
Moving
Systems"],[5]
and
do
you
agree
with
his
concluding
sentence, "while Mr.
Planck
assumes a
priori
the
validity
of the
relativity
principle,
we
