Vol.

Unknown Addressee
[Zurich, 2
March
1913]
Highly
esteemed
Sir,
...
In
the
stress
of various
obligations
I
had
completely
lost
track
of
this
matter.
Now I
am
all
the
sorrier
that
I
cannot
possibly
fulfill your
wish.
I
have
had
to
speak
and write
about the
foundations
of relativity theory
so
often
already
that
I
am
tired
to
death
of this
topic.
Added
to
this, my style
is
extremely
unwieldy
and
indigestible.
But
I
have
a
solution
...
letter,
the shorthand
notes of
a
lecture
I
held here.
These notes
are
unpalatable
in and
of
themselves.
However,
I
know
a
gentleman
who
very
certainly
understands the
subject
and who
might
possibly
agree
to
a
loose
reworking
of
the
lecture. The
caption
could
say
perhaps:
“The
Principle
of
Relat.
(using
a
lecture
held
by
A.
E.)
authored
by
...”
The address of
the
gentleman
I
have in mind
is:
Dr.
Ludwig
Hopf
[Academic]
Assistant
at
the
Aachen
Polytechnic.[1]
You should
contact
this
gentleman.
He
does
not
need
to
adhere
to
my
lecture.
You
can
safely
leave
that
to him.
I
have
no
doubt
of his
ability
to
present
the
subject
in
a
suitable
form. If
he
prefers
to
abstain
from
referring
to
my lecture,
I
am
in full
agreement
with
that
as
well.
With
all due
respect,
yours very truly,
A.
Einstein.
