Highly
esteemed
Colleague,
I would have
already
sent
you a
separatum
of
my paper,
if
I
had
received
the
offprints.[1]
As
soon as
I
have
them,
I
shall
send
you one.
By
the
way,
I
had
asked
the editorial
office
of
the
Phys.
Z[ei]tschr[ift]
to have
the
correction
proofs
forwarded
to
you,
since
I
had
no
duplicate
of
my manuscript;
I
hope
that
it has
done
so.
I
very
much wish
I
could discuss these matters with
you once,
but bad
as
the
traveling
conditions
are now,
I
shall
probably
not
be
coming
to Berlin
anytime
soon.
Above
all,
I
wish
that
you
will
recover
soon
from
your
illness!
With best
regards, yours truly,
G. Mie.

Dear friend
Einstein,
All
told,
things
are
in order here. When
I
travel
through
Chur,
I
shall
possibly
visit
your
little
Tete in
Arosa,
in order
to
give
you a
report.[2]
I
just
don’t
know
when I
can
travel,
since
now
Trudy[3]
has
a
fever
(probably
measles,
I
expect).
There
is
no
mention of
you,
even by
the children-that
is
always suspicious.
We
have serious issues here
which,
under normal
psychological circumstances,
would have been solvable without much trouble.
I
had two
sleepless nights.
I
received
this letter
from
the
addressee
very confidentially
as
a
medical
doctor
for
an
opinion
on
the
question
of what illness could
possibly
be
looming
in Nicolai’s
case.[4]
After
the
report, I
was
alarmed:
A
breakdown
is
imminent from which
the
man can recover
only
in
a
matter of
years,
if
at all.
Monakow
was, upon
confid.
consultation, of
the
same
opinion.[5]
At the outbreak
of
the
war,
we saw even
severe
conditions
that
recovered
completely.
Is
recuperation
in Switzerland
not
possible,
with
suspension
of
sentence to after the end
of
the
war? Persons who
earnestly
clear
the
air
ought
not
to
perish
now
in conflicts
that
would otherwise
not exist.
We
also have
people
here
like
Fritz
von Unruh,[6]
you know,
who
are
very
thankful.
Best
regards
from
Enriques.-
Besso[7]
and
Zangger.
