DOCS.
453,
454 FEBRUARY
1918
I
am
very
much
looking
forward to
your coming.
It
is
admirable
how
many
fine
things
come
to
your
mind.
Perhaps I
can go
out
again by
then. If
not, I
then
request
a
little
privatissimum.
In
thanking
you cordially
once
again
for
your
moving
kindness and
concern,
I
am,
with
best
regards, yours,
A. Einstein.
454. To Arnold
Sommerfeld
[Berlin,]
5
Haberland
St.
[after
1
February
1918][1]
Dear
Sommerfeld,
I
am
writing you
now once
again and,
to
a
certain
extent,
officially
about the
little
celebrative
meeting
that
we
would
like to
hold in Planck’s honor
on Friday
the
26th of
April.[2]
On
behalf
of
the
G[erman] Ph[ysical]
Society
I
request
that
you give
a
speech
on
Planck’s
importance
in
the
development
of
radiation and
quantum
theory.
We
have conceived
the
matter
as
follows:
1)
Introductory
address
(by Warburg), ca.
20
min.
2)
Sommerfeld
(radiation &
quantum
theory),
25-30 min.
3)
Laue
(Planck’s
thermodynamic
achievements),
20-25 min.
4)
Planck’s scientif.
personality,
20 min.[3]
Suggested changes
are
gladly accepted.
I
beg you
not to
deny
us
your help;
Planck
would
certainly
be
very pleased
if
you came.
The
trip
would be
paid
for
by
the
Society.
I
am
looking
forward
to
the
evening
now
already, despite
the
gods
having completely
withheld from
me
the
gift
of
oration,
because
I
am
very
fond
of
Planck and
he
will certainly
be
pleased
when he
sees
how much
we
all
like
him
and how
highly everyone regards
his
lifework.[4]
Cordial
regards, yours,
A. Einstein.
