Esteemed
Professor,
Attached
you
will
find the
letter
by
Eötvös. Its return
was
unfortunately
delayed by my
absence from
Berlin.[1]
On Eötvös’s comments
I
would
like
to add
that
a very
essential
aspect escapes
his
evaluation, namely,
that
taking
into account the
standing
of
the Potsdam
Institute,
the
general
scientific
prestige
and
talent
of
its director
is
of critical
importance,
whereas Eötvös
judges
the
matter
predominantly,
if not
exclusively,
from
the
professional
standpoint.
It
is
only
under this
constricted
professional aspect
that,
in
my
view,
Krüger
could
come
into
consideration, as occurs
in Eötvös’s
opinion.[2]
With best
regards, yours very truly,
Krüss
P.S. Under
the
given
state of
affairs,
I
would consider
Runge-Göttingen
as
the
best
solution.[3]

and would
like
to
report
on
it
to
you
before
it
is
published.[1]
