JUNE
1918 601
I notice
nothing
now.
I
hope
that
meanwhile
you
and
your
wife
are
returned
to
good
health.
We
are feeling well,
the little
harem also
is
feeding
and
thriving
sumptuously.[6]
Cordial
regards, yours,
Einstein.
Best
regards
also to
your
wife
and
your
little
ones;[7] more
another
time!
576. To
Hans Albert Einstein
Ahrenshoop,
Pomerania.
[after
29
June
1918][1]
My
dear
Albert,
I
was
really sorry
not to be able to take
you along
with
me,[2]
but
was
also
pleased
besides
that
you
miss
me a
little. You
can
easily imagine why
I
could not
come.
This
winter
I
was
so
sick
that
I
had to
lie
in bed for
over
2
months.
Every
meal must be cooked
separately
for
me.
I
may
not
make
any
abrupt
movements.
So I’d
have been allowed
neither
to
go
on
a
walk with
you
nor
to eat at
the
hotel
without
having
to
fear that the
painstakingly gained recovery
go
to
the
devil
again.[3]
How
should
I
have done it? Even
the
trip
itself
was
not
without
risk.
I
could
just
have
stayed
at
my
sister’s in
Lucerne,
where Mama
only
reluctantly
allows
you
to
go.
Added to
this
is
that
I
had
quarreled
with Anna
Besso,[4]
that
I
did not want
to
become
a
burden to Mr.
Zangger again,
and
finally,
that
I
doubted whether
my coming
mattered
much
to
you.
How
much
simpler
it would
have been for
you
to
come
to
me
if
you
had wanted.
You
are
healthy, you know,
and
it
would have been
very
nice for
you
here.
Furthermore,
we
would have been
undisturbed
here,
while in Switzerland
I
have
many
personal obligations
to
fulfill
which,
added to
everything else,
deterred
me
only
more.
I
can
just
travel to
Switzerland when
my
health
has
improved again adequately.
So
you
see
that
you
are
reproaching
me
unjustifiably; maybe
later
one
day
you’ll
think that
it would
have been
better
if
you
had worried
more
about
me
at this time.-
I’m
very pleased
that
you
feel
so
much
at
home with music
already.
I
have
not been allowed to
play
violin
anymore
for half
a year already,
because of
my
stomach,
so
you
must take
my place
in
this
respect.
I
was
pleased
no
less
that
you
must also
engage yourself
in
the
domestic arts. That’s
very
healthy
and
keeps
you
down-to-earth.
I
also reflected
on
many
a
scientific idea while
I
was
taking
you
out in
your pram
on
walks!
It
is
wonderful here at
the
Baltic
Sea.
But
sailboats
are
not loaned out
any-
where. I have to wait until the fisherman takes
me
along.
The
sea
is
magnificent
in
stormy
weather. You would
certainly
have liked it.
