DOCS. 583-585 JULY
1918 609
forth
in
your
letter,
without
very
serious
harrassment
and
disruption
in
your
professional
life.
In
expressing my
utmost
respect, yours truly,
A.
Kneser.
584. From
Max
Planck
Grunewald, 8 July 1918
Dear
Colleague,
It
is
extremely
welcome for
the
K.
W.
Institute
of
Physics
to find such
a
fine
opportunity
to
demonstrate its
effectiveness.[1]
But
I
believe
that,
to
begin with,
it
is
possible
without
a
meeting
of
the
Board
of
Directors
(which,
incidentally,
I
am
not at all
authorized
to
convene);[2]
for
the
Board members will
surely
just
be
grateful
if
they
are
not
imposed upon personally.
As
far
as
I
can see,
it
would
probably
be most advisable to handle
the
matter
just
like
Freundlich’s,
i.e., you agree
on
a
contract with
Mr.
Debye
in which the essentials
are
recorded,
namely
the amount and
payment
deadline for
the
funds
contributed
by
the
K.
W.
Institute.
Care
must
also be taken to
present
the
research
formally
as an
endeavor
by
the Institute.
Otherwise,
there
might perhaps
be
a problem
with the
Board of Trustees. Once
the
contract has been
prepared,
it
can
circulate,
and
the
vote
can
take
place
in
writing
again, as
in
the
Freundlich
case.-[3] I
am
very
pleased
that
you
are
feeling
well. I
must endure
it
here still
until the
middle of
August.
Cordial
regards, yours,
Planck.
585. To Mileva Einstein-Maric
[Berlin,
before
9 July
1918][1]
Dear
Mileva,
I’ll
be
happy
to
fulfill
your
wishes
regarding
the
mode of
money
remittance,
albeit
only
from
January 1919
onward,
since I have
already
instructed
otherwise
for
this
year
and don’t want to
cause
the
bank
so
much
trouble.[2]
So
for
the time
being, you
can
withdraw
the
interest,
in
the
course
of
this
half-year
and
exchange
it
when
you
please.
Bad times for
currency exchange
are
returning, I believe!
