58. To
Mileva Einstein-Maric
[Berlin,

1915]
D[ear] M[ileva],
Under
separate
cover
I
am
instructing
the Kantonalbank
to transfer the
bonds
as
well
as
the
savings
bankbook
to
your
name.
I
request
that
you
do
the
same
with the
papers
in
Prague.[1]
I
was
extremely pleased
with
the
pictures
of
the
dear children.
I
thank
you
for
that.
You
will
receive
the
curtains.[2]
With
best
regards,
A.
Einstein.

March

Dear Mr.
Freundlich,
I
shall be
glad
to
present your
paper[2]
to
the
Academy
and
to
say
at
that
time
“that
it would be
very
desirable
if
your
efforts
were
met
with
support
by
astronomers,”
if
you clarify
for
me satisfactorily
the
following
points:
1)
Please
give
me
brief
characterizations
of
the
spectral classes of
fixed
stars.
2)
Why
do
you say
that the
mass
function
ƒ
=
m3sin3i
(m1
+
m2)2
for
type
B
stars,
which
as
you
know
ought
to
have
particularly
large mass,
“takes
on
particularly
small values.”
Surely
the
opposite
would
be
expected.[3]
3)
Why
have
you
included in
the
examination
types
A
and
K,
which
are
suppos-
edly completely
different
spectrally?[4]
4)
I
do not find it
justified
to set
the
mean
value
m1
+
m2
=
140
as
the
mean mass
of
simple
type
B
stars.[5]
