M., 9 November 1924 Asks AE to write to Wilhelm Wien to secure the publication of the manuscript of Lanczos 1925 in the Annalen der Physik. ALS. [15 212]. 503. From Paul Winteler Colonnata, 10 November 1924 AE’s kind postcard has given them hope that they can keep their house. It is without a mortgage but was bought with a loan in the amount of 10,000 Swiss francs from Sophie Schnyder. Need to find another lender to pay Schnyder. ALS. [29 393]. 504. From Erwin Magnus Berlin, 11 November 1924 The Danish newspaper Politiken recently reported that Niels Bohr’s light theory contra- dicts AE’s theory. The newspaper has asked him to interview AE on this question. As the brother-in-law of Felix Bernstein in Göttingen, he knows about AE’s unwillingness to be interviewed. Asks for a brief statement on his point of view about Bohr’s theory, if AE does not want to be interviewed. ALS. [25 158]. 505. From Siegfried Ochs Berlin, 11 November 1924 Invites AE to a performance of Beethoven’s Missa solemnis by the Oratorienschule of Staatliche Akademische Hochschule für Musik. Encloses tickets. ALS. [44 619]. 506. To Emil Scheu Berlin, 12 November 1924 Response to Abs. 450 and Abs. 494. As a theoretical physicist he is unfamiliar with tech- nical-chemical issues and cannot judge whether the procedure to extract essential oils has any practical relevance. Apologizes for the late reply was overwhelmed with work. TLC. [44 951]. Shorthand draft in [44 949]. 507. From Kornel Lanczos Frankfurt a. M., 12 November 1924 Is grateful for the kind support, but the letter to Wien (see Abs. 502) is not needed any- more. [Karl] Scheel has informed him that the manuscript has already been submitted for publication. Wonders whether it is possible to publish Lanczos 1925 and 1926. ALS. [15 213]. 508. From Pierre Dufour Lausanne, 13 November 1924 Encloses enlargements of a snapshot taken on the lake of Lucerne during AE’s recent visit at the meeting of the Schweizerische Naturforschende Gesellschaft. Requests per- mission to reproduce twenty reprints of Einstein 1924p, and inquires whether AE can recommend any recent German physics textbook suitable for secondary education that would prepare students for the study of modern physics at universities. TLS. [45 032]. 509. From Ralph C. Hartsough New York, 14 November 1924 Has set up an experiment that consists of a sensitive quartz thread balance in which the Earth’s gravity is balanced by the torque in a quartz fiber (Hartsough 1922). Asks whether the periodic disturbance by the Moon’s gravity reaches its maximum when the Moon is at its zenith or later, due to the time the gravitational impulse takes to arrive from the Moon. Is this impulse electromagnetic and wavelike? TLS. [25 099]. 510. From the Jüdische Telegraphen-Agentur GmbH Berlin, 14 November 1924 Have been sending the daily Bulletin since 7 November. Ask whether AE would like to subscribe. TLS. [44 079]. 511. Ilse Kayser-Einstein to Jüdische Telegraphen-Agentur GmbH [Berlin, after 14 November 1924] In reply to Abs. 510, AE thanks for the Bulletin but does not have time to read it and therefore does not want to subscribe to it.
