[1]Einstein participated in a rally organized by the executive committee of the German Keren Hayesod (the Palestine Foundation Fund) at the Preussisches Herrenhaus in Berlin on 4 March. The Jüdische Rundschau reported that the rally was notable for the participation of many prominent non- Zionist Jews who were active in German public life. Other speakers at the rally were Oscar Wassermann, Rabbi Leo Baeck, Alfred Lisser-Hamburg, Gotthold Weil, Julius Magnus, Felix Pinner, Siegfried Hirsch, and Kurt Blumenfeld. [2]Dated by the date of the rally. [3]For Einstein’s previously expressed abhorrence of nationalism in general and his advocacy of the necessity of Jewish nationalism under the prevailing circumstances, see, e.g., Einstein 1925h and 1925l (Vol. 14, Docs. 438 and 470). [4]Theodor Herzl (1860–1904) was the founder of modern political Zionism.
