It will be difficult to find new employment for a man of Bergmann’s age (see also Abs. 179). However, he is willing to assist in publishing Bergmann’s work in a news- paper. TLC. [45 578]. 195. To Charles K. Payne Berlin, 12 October 1927 In reply to Abs. 163, clarifies that the planned summer course may be interesting. From Wolfgang Koch Berlin, 12 October 1927 Sends measurements on the variability of the gravitational force observed with a 1 kg pendulum in both N-S and E-W directions, as well as patent announcements. The devi- ations might also be due to magnetic storms or earthquakes. Wishes to visit with AE. TLS. [25 127]. 198. From J. Vinkenborg Utrecht, 12 October 1927 Having been informed that AE spends a few weeks each year in Delft, on behalf of the students’ association of the philosophical faculty at the University of Utrecht, invites AE to lecture when he visits the Netherlands again. ALS. [48 656]. 199. From M. Resch Vienna, 13 October 1927 Requests that AE express interest in the discoveries of Josef Hertzka, doctor in Bad Gastein, who purportedly has made discoveries in AE’s field of research. TLS. [46 667]. 200. From Georges Oprescu Geneva, 14 October 1927 Informs that the director of the Labor Bureau has written to the general secretary of the League of Nations that he is pleased with the action taken by the ICIC with regard to the request of the council of the International Labor Bureau concerning the Steering Com- mission of Intellectual Workers. From the Rhodes Trust London, 14 October 1927 Informs that, since Abraham Flexner has agreed to deliver the Rhodes Memorial Lec- tures for 1928, they hope AE would agree to do the same in 1929 and visit Oxford for the full period of the lectureship, as F. A. Lindemann has also communicated (see Abs. 166). TLS. [48 113]. 202. To Morris Raphael Cohen Berlin, [15 October 1927] Recalling memorable conversations, sends warm congratulations to the dinner in his honor at the Hotel Astor in New York. TgmX. [30 452]. 203. To Wolfgang Koch [Berlin,] 15 October 1927 In reply to Abs. 197, informs that variations in the direction of the gravitational force relative to the surface of the Earth have been followed precisely in geodesy. Since he himself does not deal with the topic, refers Koch to Wilhelm Schweydar at the Geodetic Institute in Potsdam. Variations of the size reported by Koch should not exist. TLC. [25 129].
