Believes to have discovered that real atomic weights are related to each other as the wavelengths of musical notes whose simultaneous sounding produces a minimum of beats. The atomic volumes are related as the inverse of the energy quantities that are used up in the singular places of homoge- neous beats. ALS. [46 669]. 217. From Heinrich Loewe Berlin, 23 October 1927 Oskar Cohn has been in Moscow. Suggests that they all meet on 27 October in Cohn’s apartment, together with B. Katz, to discuss the matter of the Ginzburg library (see Vol. 15, Abs. 224). 218. From Helmut Oehmke Berlin, 25 October 1927 Reminding that AE had expressed interest a long time ago in his essay “Auf dem Wege zu Wirtschaftskonferenzen” (nonextant), encloses an article he just published in the Rheinisch- Westfälische Zeitung on the development of a German national economic system. TLS. [47 763]. 219. From Bamag-Meguin A. G. Berlin, 26 October 1927 In response to Einstein and Szilard’s communication of 7 October (nonextant), inform that the firm’s current situation does not allow it to commit to any further expenditures beyond 1 December 1927 related to the refrigerator patent agreement of 1 December 1926 (see draft contract, Vol. 15, Doc. 417). Einstein and Szilard may continue the de- velopment until the end of the year at the company’s cost. TLS. [35 572]. 220. From Paul Oestreich Berlin-Friedenau, 26 October 1927 The Bund Entschiedener Schulreformer is organizing a protest meeting against the new school legislation draft (see Abs. 118) on 7 November and requests AE’s participation. ALS. [48 427]. 221. From Émile Meyerson Paris, 27 October 1927 In reply to Abs. 204, understands that AE does not desire to make any changes to the review. Nevertheless, suggests that one might add that AE’s conception on the differ- ence between geometrical physics and physical geometry is fundamentally different from the sections on Eddington and Weyl quoted by Meyerson, in the sense of AE’s earlier letter (see Doc. 40). He has been suffering lately, and his insomnia makes work difficult. ALS. [18 289]. 222. From Teodor Schlomka Halle (Saale), 27 October 1927 In reply to Doc. 46, informs that his flights will be continued by the Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt with an induction compass. They will take four weeks. Expects final results. AKS. [21 522]. 223. From Charles K. Payne New York, 28 October 1927 In reply to Abs. 195, intends to rearrange study plans unless AE lectures in summer of 1927. Might postpone to 1928. TLS. [47 826]. 224. From Josef Weber Leipzig, 28 October 1927 Hopes to be able to work on verification of relativity theory in Tübingen (see Abs. 208). Encloses calculations for the next eclipse of 9 May 1929, which, it is hoped, will clarify issues raised by the eclipse of 21 September 1922 [23 292]. Believes, like Kopff 1924, that the Einstein effect will be well observed. Discusses the stars that will be visible in the field of the Sun in 1929. Offers to send a star map. Is interested in the position that has opened at the Vienna observatory. ALS. [23 291]. 225. From Chr. Kratchmaroff Rotterdam, 29 October 1927 Believes nature has made an exception whereby electrons move in an exact circle around the positive nucleus, and is the cause of a important natural phenomenon. Asks whether this is correct. Will inform of the phenomenon. ALS. [47 306].
