To Luis Molina [Berlin, after 18 May 1923] Response to Abs. 56. Acknowledges the receipt of his letter in regard to the honorary degree (see Vol. 13, Abs. 469). Dft in IE’s hand. [30 161]. 59. From Svante Arrhenius [Stockholm,] 21 May 1923 The program for the Skandinaviska Naturforskaremötet in Gothenburg is finalized. There is sufficient time if AE wants to send his popular lecture and the special lecture to him so he can include it in the program. He will be in Berlin around 17 June, will stay with his wife’s sister-in-law Hanna Riesenfeld, and wants to see AE. Guesses that from Gothenburg AE will go to Stockholm to settle his business (see Vol. 13, Doc. 445). He also will be in Stockholm and can be of assistance if needed. Congratulates AE on the result of the recent solar eclipse observation by Campbell. ALS. [6 358]. 60. From Josef Weber Leipzig, 24 May 1923 In a letter, AE raised questions that will help in formulating the problem more exactly. In explaining the difference between the observed and calculated Doppler shift of the spectrum of Sirius, Weber was led by the wrong idea of a motion, the curvature of which can only be observed over centuries. The question whether the radial velocity may be deduced from the geometric data of the star cluster is to be answered by investigating whether the individual velocity of Sirius differs from that of the cluster by more than 1.06 km/sec, the accepted upper limit for a star to be considered to belong to the cluster. Other clusters should be investigated in order to find out, within a limit, how much their motion may deviate from the parallel. Proposes a personal meeting for 26 May 1923. ALS. [23 269]. 61. To Carl Speyer Berlin, 25 May 1923 Belated response to Vol. 13, Abs. 516. However, due to the scarcity of money, is not certain who could employ him. Recommends contacting the Zionist Organisation, Central Office in London. TLS. [44 928]. 62. To Ernst J.
