He argues that in outer space light propagates with infinite velocity, but when penetrating the atmosphere, the molecules of the air transmit it by their vibra- tions. This takes time, therefore the light velocity turns finite. The negative result of the Michelson-Morley experiment is explained by the fact that the air is dragged by the Earth’s surface. The future of the German people and of mankind is at stake. This expla- nation is therefore of enormous importance and will help to preserve religious, ethical, and spiritual values. ALS. [43 822]. 201. From W. J. Margreve Berlin, 6 November 1923 On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the armistice, solicits short replies to the fol- lowing questions for the New York World: (1) Do the postwar developments augur well for the future of the world? (2) Have the nations of the world changed their world-view, or is the course of developments causing them to drift apart? (3) Who is at fault? [Ray- mond] Poincaré? What types of assistance can be provided? By whom or by which means? TLS. [45 287]. 202. From Berlin-Schöneberg Office of Taxation Berlin, 9 November 1923 Will no longer acknowledge IE as AE’s representative and requests AE’s personal ap- pearance for a hearing after his return from Holland. Important information that is re- quired: (1) Name and address of the attorney who filed the 1922 income tax return (2) The name of the office that handled that payment of the Nobel Prize money (3) Was the money paid to AE or to a third party (bank) in that case, who was the payee? (4) When, in what currency, and in which manner (bank transfer, registered mail) was the money transferred to Mileva Einstein-Maric, i.e., transferred to the Swiss bank? (5) Why is the remaining 40,000 M, which, according to the divorce agreement, belonged to AE, not mentioned in the 1922 tax form? (6) Needs to provide detailed documentation for AE’s earnings as a writer, scientist, professor, etc., which amounted to 408,877 M. Want to see AE within a week after his return from the Netherlands. TLS. [43 678]. 203. From Heinz Quint Vienna, 10 November 1923 Presents a proof that the claim in Laue 1911 that, for two velocities in the same reference system, one should use the classical addition formula is wrong. TLS. IE notes: “Beantw. am 2. I. 24.” [44 704]. 204. From Brandt (Landgericht I) Berlin, 12 November 1923 Informs AE that the court’s understanding had been that he would issue an opinion only after an on-site visit to both companies’ factories in Berlin and Dresden (see Abs. 35). However, AE has submitted his opinion after only visiting one of the companies. There- fore, one party now objects to his premature opinion (Doc. 2). Consequently, AE’s re- muneration will be considered later. ALS. [35 360].
