And his
personal
life!-
His
passion
for
serious,
classical
music-then
primarily
for
Wagner
and Bruckner!-
You
knew him
personally,
of
course,
in all his
youthful vigor
and zest for
life!
and his interest
in
everything
that
can
be
called culture and intellectual
creativity
on
the
one
hand,
and his
feel
for
nature-and
the need for
a
closer association
with
it,
a
related
passion
for
traveling, skiing,
and rowing-on
the
other,
not to
mention
a sense
for
all
that
is
sublime, good
and
ethical!-
Yes,
that
was a
consummate
individual-no
fault,
no
dark side.-
-I
do not know whether
you possess
a
photograph of
him-if
not,
I
shall be
glad
to
send
you one-we
had
one
here
of
you
from
Prague-[5]
Those
were
fine
days
back
then!-[6] I
am
enclosing
a
German
death
notice.[7]
Owing
to
the
war
conditions, they
were
printed
late,
and
I
also did not
get
around
to
sending
them
out
immediately.
If
you
would
like
to have
a
complete listing
of
all
the
publications by my
husband,
it
would be
a
pleasure
for
me
to send
it
to
you-in
case
you
need
it
for
the
obituary.-
Best
regards,
and
in
expression
of
my
utmost
respect,
from

P. S.
This letter
was
already completely
finished and
was
supposed
to
be
sent off
when
I
learned
that
a new
edition
of
the
complete
works of
my
husband
is
being
planned
and that the
wish had been
expressed
that
you, Professor,
be asked
to
write
the
introduction.-[8]
I
agree
that this
would lend much
greater
importance
and
special
value to
the
entire
work,
and
that
is
why,
when
I gather
that the
editors
of
the
new
edition
will turn to
you
about
it,
I
also shall take
the
liberty
of
soliciting your
consent,
since
I truly
believe it
to
be best and
most
desirable.-
Once
again,
my compliments
and
respect,
Sophie
Smoluchowska.
